Take the Stress Out of Estate Planning with Duffy North

Being prepared for your meeting with our team of Montgomery County estate planning lawyers can help to make this an easy, stress-free endeavor. You can bring some items that will help us. Once we have all of the information that we need, we can draft a Will, Power of Attorney, or Living Will that is the perfect fit for you and your loved ones. The list below details what will be helpful at your estate planning meeting, but if there are additional documents needed for your unique circumstances, your Montgomery County estate planning attorney will request them specifically.

Estate Planning Documents

The items or information that will be helpful to have ready for your estate planning meeting include:

  • Business: If you are currently the owner of or have an interest in a business, business information such as name, location and type of business.
  • Family: The names, ages, and contact information for your immediate family, former spouse(s) if applicable, grandchildren, and any other family who will be beneficiaries, guardians, or otherwise named.
  • Inheritance: The nature of any inheritance you expect or if you are the beneficiary of a trust.
  • Life Insurance: Pertinent information about life insurance policies including ownership, insurance company information, and beneficiary information.
  • Assets: The type of asset, the holding institution and beneficiary information for any financial accounts you own, including bank accounts, investment accounts, stocks & bonds accounts, retirement accounts (IRAs, 401ks, 403Bs, inherited retirement accounts and pensions).
  • Prior-Estate Planning: If you have created any previous documents, they will be necessary for the new will, living will or power of attorney.
  • Real Estate: Any applicable real estate property address, ownership interest, mortgage balance and market value.

Questions to Consider

In order to provide the most thorough estate planning for each of our clients, we put together a list of questions that can help you to know what we are looking for during our meeting. If you would like, you can even write out the answers to these questions for yourself, so that you are sure that you don’t forget any key information during the meeting. Things to think about before you come in:

  • Do you have a plan for funeral arrangements?
  • How would you like your property to be divided? (Percentage to heirs, charity, church)
  • Do any of your heirs have special needs that will be taken into consideration?
  • Do you have a specific person in mind to be the executor of your will?
  • Do you have a specific person in mind to serve as Trustee over any Trusts?
  • Do you want to appoint a guardian for any minor children?
  • Do you want to donate your organs?

When you are ready to set a plan in place for your future, and that of your family, call our Montgomery County estate planning attorneys.
